Competition entry for L train shutdown connectivity, with Nick Wong, Upcycles. This project proposes a reconfiguration of 14th St in Manhattan to be a pedestrian and transit based thoroughfare. Four lanes of vehicle traffic are reduced to an emergency lane, bicycle lane and two bus lanes.

The competition sought ideas that proposed solutions for transit along the L train corridor during the 2018 subway shutdown. The vision for this project is one that is applicable to all streets in New York City and pedestrian friendly cities in general.

The age of private passenger vehicles in New York City is winding to a close. Areas such as Times Square and Union Square North have in recent decades been reconfigured with similar strategies to resolve overcrowded sidewalks that create a danger for pedestrians and a liability for drivers.

New York City is in need of improved public infrastructure and a street-scape that gives priority to human wellness, safety and pedestrian mobility. Current measures such as Vision Zero and congestion pricing are important but limited in scope. The inevitable future of New York is to become a model city that gives its inhabitants freedom to inhabit the street, without fear of violence, aggression, and endangerment by motorists,
